What is Shadowrun?

Shadowrun is a role-playing game published by the FASA Corp FanPro. It is set in the mid-21st century, generally (though not always) in North America. There are five races, all of which are "meta-human," that is, all the races came from humans since the time of the Awakening. The races are: Troll, Orc, Elf, Dwarf, and Human. They each have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Contrary to the Dungeons and Dragons dice-rolling attribute system, Shadowrun players assign priority to Race, Skills, Resources (money), Magic and Attributes. Thus, the players choose whether it is more important to have a rich Troll Mage who's not terribly bright, or a poor Human Decker who's a genius.

In addition to the five races, Shadowrun has an extremely open-ended class system. Each character, during character creation, and occasionally through the game, "learns" various skills, such as Sorcery or Pistols. As the game progresses (and through the lifetime of the character), more skills may be added. The Shadowrun universe has an amazingly well integrated blend of magic and technology. The skill list is very broad, and, of course, may be modified by the game master as s/he chooses. This leads to a large degree of control and a wide range of possiblities for the players.

Where are some Shadowrun resources?

Well, finding Shadowrun resources can be difficult, especially when you're trying to sift through all the drek that the search engines bring up. So, I've listed on my links page.

I want to play! Where can I?

That one's a tricky one to answer. If you prefer to be in person, and have companions you can see and touch, I can't help you right now. You might try a search in Google for shadowrun and your home town. However, if you're okay with an online game, then I might be able to help you.

My friend, the timeraider, aka Ayanami, and I have been working on an integrated shadowrun site for some time now. It is nearly ready, though there are a few bugs in it yet, and several systems are going to have to be redesigned. However, the forum is online (thanks to a little thing we like to call phpBB), and there are currently two games in-progress, though things tend to slow down occasionally. Head on over to http://www.socialstigma.net/ and check it out, or check out the forum at http://www.socialstigma.net/shadowrun/phpbb/.

Misc

While I was on vacation, I came up with an idea for a Shadowrun musical, Running the Shadows. I haven't written it yet, but the idea page is available to look at.
